In a perfect world, every neighborhood would have a place like Harvey’s, whose comforts-heavy menu is anchored in the traditions of home — and in the professional kitchens where owner Thomas Harvey apprenticed with some of Washington’s finest chefs. As a chef, Harvey isn’t seduced by trends. His food is rooted in fundamental technique, family history, and a respect for the Falls Church community where the restaurant is located.

From the moment I eased onto a bar stool at Harvey's, I knew I had found a friend. I had a panoramic view of the kitchen. The hearth in the corner flickered flames in the back of its cast-ceramic floor, as a cook slid plates in and out of the oven's half-moon opening.

If Cheers and the general store could have a baby, it would be Harvey's, chef Thomas Harvey says, summarizing the concept for his forthcoming Falls Church restaurant and bar.
